The buttery count in the area has been down for the past 4 months. The crown flower is growing vigorously, but the milkweed has been invaded by aphids and is not growing well. We have raised approximately 30 butterflies this summer and fall. The lower percentage of egg laying on our plants has given the crown flower a chance to grow. See the pictures of our crown flower plants below in full bloom!
On 10/10 we released 6 butterflies from the most recent batch of caterpillars.
Now we wait to see signed of new caterpillar life.
